Red Velvet Irish Pouch - project by Bobbie Berry

Red Velvet Irish Pouch
Photos of this one-of-a-kind project with instructions was kindly sent to us by Bobbie Berry. Bobbie, thank you!!!

You will need:
1/2 yard velvet
1/2 yard silk for lining
Sticky stabilizer (or Adhesive embroidery spray)
2 yards gold cord for handle
Package of glitter star buttons
Embroidery initial design

Make your pattern following suggested style in photo.

The size I used is approximately 11" wide by 13" high (red velvet) and lining is 11" wide by 14" high. Hoop sticky stabilizer and center the velvet onto hoop.

I used pins for alignment of center of embroidery design.

Stitch the embroidery design on the front section of the bag.

Sew glitter star buttons on. Stitch front to back.

Make pocket and stitch to lining.

Stitch lining front to back leaving 5" opening at bottom to turn right side out.

Stitch lining to bag at neck opening.

Turn bag right side out, adjusting lining to rise above velvet bag by one inch. Stitch casing for handle cording leaving open at side seams.

Insert cord through casing.

Using a small piece of silk lining, wrap around loose ends of cord and stitch together using a zigzag stitch.

Slide cording connection to inside center back of casing. Finished.

One more interesting idea using the same sewing pattern and Art Nouveau 2-letter Monogram & Frame.
